IN MATTHEW CHAPTER 6 WE SEE JESUS INSTRUCTING HIS DISCIPLE HOW TO PRAY.
WE HAVE SUCH A CARING AND LOVING GOD THAT WANTS TO TEACH US
AND INSTRUCT US HOW TO LIVE OUT HIS WORD.
HE CARES ABOUT OUR PRAYERS!
Matthew 6:9-13
“ Pray, then, in this way:
‘Our Father who is in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
JESUS SAYS THAT OUR PRAYERS SHOULD BE TO THE FATHER IN HEAVEN.
HE BEGINS BY DECLARING WHO THE FATHER IS.
HALLOWED = HOLY CONSECRATED SACRED AND REVERED
10 ‘ Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
OUR PRAYER FOCUS SHOULD BE HIS KINGDOM AND HIS WILL COMING FORTH.
HIS SOVEREIGNTY, HIS ROYALTY AND HIS POWER BEING MADE MANIFEST IN THE EARTH..
IN HEAVEN HE IS EVERYBODY'S KING.
CAN YOU IMAGINE THE EARTH BEING A PLACE WHERE EVERY PERSON IS LIVING IN CHRIST AND EVERYONE’S WORDS AND ACTIONS ARE BRINGING GLORY TO GOD?
THAT IS WHAT OUR PRAYERS SHOULD BE USHERING IN!
VERSE
11 ‘ Give us this day our daily bread.
DAILY... IN HEBREW MEANS FOR THE COMING DAY or
SUBSISTENCE WHICH MEANS = : the amount of food, that is needed to stay alive.
WE CANT JUST LIVE ON YESTERDAY’S WORD!
WE NEED THE WORD OF GOD EACH DAY IN A NEW AND LIVING WAY AND
WE NEED OUR PORTION OF IT.
Proverbs 30:8-9
Keep deception and lies far from me,
Give me neither poverty nor riches;
Feed me with the food that is MY portion,
9 That I not be full and deny You and say, “Who is the Lord?”
Or that I not be in want and steal,
And profane the name of my God.
THAT WORD PORTION IN HEBREW MEANS SOMETHING PRESCRIBED.
THINK ABOUT PRESCRIPTIONS YOU GET FROM THE DOCTOR.
WHAT WORKS FOR ONE PERSON DOESN’T WORK FOR EVERYONE
BECAUSE IT’S NOT WHAT THEIR BODY NEEDS TO FIX THEIR PROBLEM OR AILMENTS.
NOW EVERY PART OF GODS WORD IS FOR EVERYMAN BUT WE ALL HAVE DIFFERENT ISSUES AND ARE AT DIFFERENT LEVELS IN OUR WALK WITH GOD SO THE WORD THAT I NEED TODAY FROM GOD MAY NOT BE THE SAME WORD YOU NEED TODAY.
SOME ARE IN NEED OF MILK AND SOME ARE IN NEED OF MEAT.
SO GIVE US OUR DAILY BREAD, MEANS WHAT WE NEED TODAY
WE CAN’T LIVE ON LEFTOVERS OR STORE UP ENOUGH FOR TOMORROW.
VERSE 12 ‘And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
AS...IS A KEY WORD IN THIS SCRIPTURE AND HE EXPLAINS WHY AT THE END OF THIS PRAYER.
VERSE 13 ‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. [For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. ’]
Matthew 26:41
Keep watching and praying that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
AND NOW WHAT DOES THE AS MEAN IN VERSE 12
WELL LET’S LOOK AT VERSE 14
VERSE 14
For if you forgive people their trespasses [their reckless and willful sins, leaving them, letting them go, and giving up resentment], your heavenly Father will also forgive you. BUT IF YOU DO NOT forgive others their trespasses [their reckless and willful sins, leaving them, letting them go, and giving up resentment], neither will your Father forgive you your trespasses. (Matthew 6:14, 15 AMP)
JESUS TOOK THE TIME TO SIT WITH HIS DISCIPLES AND INSTRUCT THEM HOW TO PRAY. WHY?
BECAUSE HE KNOWS WHAT WE NEED BEFORE WE ASK.
HE DOESNT WANT OUR PRAYERS TO BE MEANINGLESS.
AND HE DOESNT WANT US TO DO WHAT WE DO TO BE SEEN BY MEN.
Matthew 6:7
“And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words.
8 So do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.
Matthew 6:1
1 “Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.
GOD KNOWS OUR NEEDS AND THE NEEDS OF THOSE WE WILL BE MINISTERING TO.
SO WHEN WE PRAY, LETS PRAY HIS WAY, LETS MOVE HIS HEART WITH OUR PRAYERS THE RESULTS WILL PRODUCE EXACTLY WHAT HE WANTS AND EXACTLY WHAT WE NEED!!
’Our Father, dwelling in the heavenly realms,
may the glory of your name
be the center on which our lives turn.
Manifest your kingdom realm,
and cause your every purpose to be fulfilled on earth,
just as it is fulfilled in heaven.
We acknowledge you as our Provider
of all we need each day.
Forgive us the wrongs we have done as we ourselves
release forgiveness to those who have wronged us.
Rescue us every time we face tribulation
and set us free from evil.
For you are the King who rules
with power and glory forever. Amen.’
“And when you pray, make sure you forgive the faults of others so that your Father in heaven will also forgive you.
Matthew 6:9-14(Passion Translation)
